SCENARIO I

WHERE IS EVERYBODY?
There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space, and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears, and the summit of his knowledge.
You arrive on a dirt road. Look back and you see only a long, endless road and desert. Up ahead, you can see the first signs of civilization— a gas station with a scratchy record playing a slow, endless song over the intercom. Occasionally, the music is interrupted by a man’s voice. It cuts in and out but listen long enough and you'll eventually begin to piece together the message:

The place is here. The time is now, and the journey into the shadows that we are about to watch, could be our journey.

Continue forward and you'll eventually find an empty city. Food is laid out at the diner, completely undisturbed, and still good to eat. The library is filled with books, worn but still legible. All around the town, there is evidence that people once lived here, and yet, there is no sign of people… well, except for all of you.

You have arrived with the clothes on your back and everything on your person. Your abilities and appearances and all of the things that make you who you are will be the same. In time, however, you will find that those who are more than normal will begin to feel curious effects-- a growing sense of discomfort, a ringing in the ears, a fog in the mind, or an itch you can never reach. Those who are perfectly normal will continue to be absolutely, totally, perfectly normal and may even be able to offer some temporary relief to their special companions.

Time passes. At least, you're pretty sure time passes. After all, time is constant and always a thing, right? But it's hard to tell exactly how long you've been here. You know it hasn't been for very long. It feels longer than a few hours but shorter than a day but there's no clear way to tell. You only have your own internal clocks and energy levels to help you guess. Characters who are completely and totally normal will have one advantage this time around: It feels like about half a day.

A phone rings in a general shop. You answer and hear the same voice on the other end,

"The place: a far corner of the universe. The cast of characters: a population lost amongst the stars. They're looking for home. They'll find the perfect neighborhood; a tree-lined little world of front porch gliders, barbecues, the laughter of children, and the bell of an ice cream vendor. And in that moment, our lost population will learn: What is the meaning of home?"

The voice is ordinary enough. It has no compulsive or powerful effect on you and the only thing that guides you is your own, natural curiosity. Interestingly enough, the closer you get to the picture-perfect neighborhood called Beaver Wood, the better you feel.
BEAVER WOOD
You head to Beaver Wood where every house is exactly the same; white painted 2-story homes, the same Cadillac Coupe DeVille, wide front lawns, white picket fences, and evergreen shrubbery. Each and every door is unlocked and you might feel drawn to certain homes in particular. Inside, you will find familiar things. Your favorite books decorate the coffee table, the closets are filled with your other clothes. You might even find signs that people dear and close to you were also here before. A precious friend’s jewelry on the bedside table, an old ally’s knife in the kitchen, and more. On the mantle, there are photographs of you, your friends, and the people you have wandered the town with.

Suddenly, the television turns on in the living room.

“The perfect place where one can live peacefully and rest. At the sound of the roar and the flash of light, it will be precisely 6:43 P.M on a Saturday evening.... the last calm and reflective moment—”

It's impossible to tell what time it really is but as if on cue, there will be a roaring sound a bright, blinding flash of light. In the blink of an eye, everything around you changes. The world seems brighter and you can hear noise.

You will notice that even your clothes have changed to fit in with your new environment. Those of you who were different will feel different in, well, a different sense because now, most of your powers and things that made you different are gone. Why, we're all mostly the same here, now!

Upon inspection, you will see that the neighborhood is filled with people. Mothers call their children home, fathers pull into their driveways, and children race home laughing. When they see you, they smile and wave as if they were a friend. Better get out of the street before you get run over!

Speak to them about what happened and they will tell you nothing. They have no idea what you’re talking about! But they’ll treat you as if you have lived here for a very long time if not forever. They’ll even begin to tell you details about your life here; your job, your family, and so on. No matter what they say, it’s clear that this is your home and as far as they’re concerned, it has been for awhile.
JOLLY HOLIDAYS
Throughout the month, your neighbors will ask you when you’re going to put up your tree. They’ll ask the adults what they’re getting their children for Christmas and they’ll ask the kids what they want. They’ll tell you to take a family photo with Santa Claus downtown. They’ll continue to ask you these questions again and again no matter what your answer may be or how many times you've answered.

Sometimes they're less curious and they just drone on and on about themselves. The kids babble about the latest doll or science kit they want. The parents discuss how little Judy really wants a puppy but they just aren't sure if she's ready yet. They all talk about the weather and how cold it's become. Is it going to snow? It hasn't snowed yet but the weather forecast keeps promising a white Christmas…

To top everything off, they'll also be engaging in their usual slightly off and moderately dangerous behavior-- trying to poison you with snacks at home, pushing you down the stairs, trying to run you over with their cars, and so on. Every time, they just smile and act like they've done nothing wrong.

Students will go on winter vacation around mid-month and be told they don't have to come back until after the new year. There are plenty of seasonal part-time jobs to pick up. Businesses and organizations are hosting all sorts of holiday events— luncheons, craft days, Christmas plays, and more. There's so much to do during this wonderful time of year.
YULETIDE CAROLS
It’s December in Serling! Everyone in town is getting into the festive spirit. Throughout the week, you will be visited by carolers every evening leading up to the 25th. While the caroling groups look exactly the same, they always treat each visit as if it was the first and look confused when you mention they were here before. They’ll always mention another caroling group but you’re pretty sure this is the same group of singers. If you let them sing, they will sing a festive song and move on to the next house without issue.

Choosing to ignore them will result in the persistent ringing of the doorbell and knocking on the door. Eventually, they will begin to slam at the door and scream for attention. They throw their bodies against your home with no regard for themselves. Wood splinters, glass shatters, and the hinges of your door begin to strain. Ignore them long enough and they might even succeed in breaking down the door after which, they will sing their song as if nothing happened and continue to the next house, disheveled, bloodied, limping, and dragging themselves to repeat the process all over again.

They heal normally so even though their bodies are bruised and broken the next day, they repeat this process. They do it again and again. They never rest. They never mention their injuries and continue as normally as they possibly can. The carolers will all do one last round on Christmas day and finish for the year. Finally, they can begin to heal.
SANTA IS COMING
Regardless of what your character does, on December 24th, a tree will appear in their living room. They’ll find a box of ornaments to decorate the tree with. Some of the ornaments might even look familiar. For example, a Final Fantasy character might find ornaments that look like chocobos. A Zelda character might have a Hyrulian nativity set to hang.

On December 25th, everyone will wake up to… a shaking like an earthquake in the morning (around 9 AM) and find presents under their tree. They’ll find mostly generic presents-- dolls, scratchy sweaters, jello molds, blenders, toasters, and so on but each character will find one present unique to them.

This unique present will be their second regain for the period. If the present is something intangible like a power or another form, it might be presented to them as an action figure, a snowglobe, a Christmas card, or some other creative way. This special gift will be marked, "From Santa."
LET IT SNOW
But what about that shaking? The shaking is strong, enough to knock things off of shelves and wake up everyone. None of the NPCs seem to have been disturbed. The NPCs living in your house sleep through it all and not a soul is outside if you go to investigate. What you will find however is that it's finally begun to snow. It looks like that weather forecast was right after all.

The snow settles.

A little girl laughs.

… But there is no little girl to be found.

About an hour later, the NPC children will wake up their siblings and parents to hurry up and open presents.

There are small earthquakes for the next few days. After each earthquake, it snows. Sometimes you can hear the girl laugh again. Then, suddenly, it all stops.

The rest of the year is seemingly calm and quiet. The locals turn their attention to New Year…
NOTES,
IC, our first day is Monday, December 13th and this scenario will be for the entire month.

Upon arrival, characters will be able to retain one minor regain from home. It can be a physical item, a power/ability, or a form. Powers, abilities, and forms will be depowered or have limited use. For example, healing powers might be reduced to only a minor heal, ice powers might be limited to only ten minutes a day, and alternative forms might only be accessible for a few moments a day. I’m not going to police this so play with your own limits here but the idea is that it should be a small regain. If you have questions, you can ask.

On December 25th, we’ll receive a second reward from Santa Claus. Through the magic of Christmas, this can go to powering up your first regain (from a small to a moderate regain) or to a completely new regain (small or moderate). Again, I’m not going to police your limits but know that it should be a small or moderate regain.

The earthquakes and laughing girl can be investigated with limited results.

This is our first scenario which is more or less like our catchall log and event for the period. Thank you for playing with me and please remember to check out the information pages. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. It's not too late to jump in with other characters. Just comment on the roll call post because it helps me keep track of who's here and plan future things.

This month is supposed to be pretty chill since it's basically our intro log but feel free to get creative. Our next scenario will go up in early January and include more chances to get hurt or die to balance out how relatively easy this month is. I'll throw up another roll call and plotting post before it goes up.

This is my first time doing something involved/plotty for a lot of people so if you have any questions or feedback pleaaaaase tell me bc it helps me know what to do better next time. You can hit me up on Discord (eski#9874) or Plurk ([plurk.com profile] eski).

If there's anything you guys really want to do with your characters, let me know. If y'all wanna try to do some character arcs, suffer in a certain way, customize/figure out a regain, etc... hit! me! up! This is supposed to be a PSL musebox deal so I can be really flexible to help make things happen.

LASTLY, please check out this poll so I can see if there's any interest in having a Discord server for us.
